Upon the death of Nelson Haas the father of Hackensack Schools, the article of Friday December 29, 1905 and Saturday January 6, 1906 mentions Albert A. Ackerman as being one of those pupils Nelson Haas tutored when principal of the Washington Institute School in Hackensack, for acceptance into the Naval Academy.
 
          Albert A. Ackerman served on the USS Oregon during the Naval battle for Santiago Cuba during the Spanish-American War as a Lieutenant on board.
